Bonita Springs-based franchisor offers powerful insight into dementia

Oasis Senior Advisors are working toward better care and education to help those with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. As part of its recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, the Bonita Springs-based franchisor invites the community to participate in an educational Virtual Dementia Tour on Friday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Landmark Hospital in North Naples. Call Landmark Hospital at 239-529-1800 to reserve a space.

“Alzheimer’s and dementia affect a growing number of people across the country,” Oasis Senior Advisors CEO Tim Evankovich said. “Part of our commitment to helping seniors and their families is doing everything we can to support those suffering from these conditions.”

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a one-of-a-kind sensory experience that provides critical insight into what it’s like to live with dementia and related disorders, including Alzheimer’s. Tour participants wear gloves that impair the use of their hands, headphones that affect their hearing, and glasses that blur their vision. They’re asked to perform common tasks that are much more difficult than they otherwise would be to simulate side effects of memory loss disorders.

The idea is to foster a greater understanding of, and empathy for, seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

“Landmark Hospital is honored to participate with Oasis Senior Advisors in hosting the Virtual Dementia Tour,” said Susan Bailey, CEO of Landmark Hospital of Southwest Florida. “As Landmark utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach to care, with a focus of regaining quality of life, we are privileged to support fellow caregivers and healthcare providers alike in understanding and advancing the treatment of this disease.”

Many Oasis Seniors Advisors from the company’s 78 franchises in 28 states are also raising money for Alzheimer’s care and research through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. A team of seven from Oasis corporate headquarters in Bonita Springs participated in the local walk at North Collier Regional Park in Naples on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Some advisors are involved in additional fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s and dementia-related organizations. All told, Oasis Senior Advisors have raised more than $6,000, so far.
