Inaugural “Sunshine 5K” Run benefited local foster children

Friends of Foster Children Forever (FFCF) held their inaugural ‘Sunshine 5K Run/Walk’ on April 22 at the Vineyards Community Park in Naples. The 5K race included runners along with walkers, and was coordinated courtesy of the Gulf Coast Runners. Participants ranged in age from 10 years old to an 89 year old runner. The overall race winner was Zachary Dale, age 15, who came in at 18:55 minutes.

The event, which had nearly 200 participants, was held to raise public awareness of the needs of local foster children and help support the FFCF academic mentoring program.

FFCF volunteers and sponsors helped participants to enjoy a morning of fun and entertainment. Making the event possible were sponsors: DeVoe Automotive Group, Uniforms Unlimited, Infinity Home Group, Jim and Faye Derham, Kristoff Jewelers, Laram Construction, Naples Luxury Builders, Inc., Pathways Human Services, Sunset Grill LLC, Waypoint Electric, and William C. Huff Companies.

The FFCF mission is to focus on the children they serve by providing targeted educational and enrichment opportunities that allow each child to fulfill his or her potential. The charitable organization works to fulfill the unmet needs of every child who enters, or is at risk of entering the foster care system in Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties.
