Lee County Bar Association Hosts “Law in the Mall” to Provide Free Legal Advice to the Community

Part of a week long commitment to giving back to the community

The Lee County Bar Association will kick off “Law Week 2014” by hosting its annual Law in the Mall event on Saturday, April 26th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Edison Mall located at 4125 Cleveland Avenue near Dillards. Attorney Ryan O’Halloran, the Chair of the Law in the Mall event, the LCBA will have a large number of attorneys participating who will cover a wide variety of practice areas and offer free legal advice to members of the community who cannot afford to hire an attorney.

“I’m proud of all the local attorneys who participate,” said Law Week Chair Judge John S. Carlin. “For many of them, Law in the Mall is an extension of the countless hours they already donate each year providing help to people who otherwise would have no access to legal advice and services.”

Attorneys will offer legal direction on topics that include divorce, probate, criminal law, bankruptcy, real estate and foreclosure, as well as many others. Law in the Mall is the second event of this year’s Law Week, an annual week of activities honoring and promoting the importance of law in our community and our country.

The first event during “Law Week” is a blood drive on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Monroe Street from 8 am to 3 pm on Friday, April 25th. Subsequent events are The Bar and Judiciary Appreciation reception hosted byThe Lee County Association for Women Lawyers on Thursday, May 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This event will honor the Judiciary of the Twentieth Circuit and the Middle District of Florida. Hors d’oeuvres and cash bar will be available. Reservations are required by Tuesday, April 28th, members are $15 and non-members and guests are $30. The Second District Court of Appeal (DCA)will hear oral arguments at the Lee County Justice Center on May 2nd. The DCA Judges will meet with local high school students who can ask questions of judges with the Second District Court of Appeal at 8:30 a.m. prior to the opening of court. The law week concludes with the 21st Annual Law Week Awards Luncheon to be held on May 2nd at 11:30 a.m. at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center. The luncheon will honor Law Enforcement Officers of the Year for the City of Fort Myers, City of Cape Coral, Sanibel and the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. Also, the Dr. James A. Adams Lee County Teacher of the Year for Law-Related Education will be awarded to an outstanding teacher, and the prestigious Liberty Bell Award will be presented to a very deserving member of our community.
