SRMA members to take part in Manufacturing Day with Southwest Florida high schools

The Southwest Regional Manufacturers Association (SRMA) is pleased to announce that several of its members will be hosting five high schools on Friday, October 2 as part of Manufacturing Day, a national day celebrating modern manufacturing that is meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

Marine Concepts/JRL Ventures, Polygon Solutions, S4J Manufacturing Services, Storm Smart, and Trilogy Labs will welcome students from Mariner High, Lee Virtual, Ida S. Baker High, Dunbar High, and North Fort Myers High. The students will be given tours of the manufacturing facilities, learn about the manufacturing industry and talk with the business owners about the skilled labor shortage the industry faces and how future generations can ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.

SRMA is collaborating with the The STEM@Work program, which is driven through a partnership between The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools and the Career and Technical Education Department of The Lee County School District. Through immersion tours, shadowing and hands-on activities, students from Lee County District High Schools experience on-the-job skills in local science, technology, engineering and mathematics industries.

Students apply to participate in the STEM@Work program, and those chosen have a variety of backgrounds and interests. The Foundation and the School District coordinate transportation for students to and from area businesses for these engaging STEM experiences.

Manufacturing is growing in Southwest Florida, and SRMA is building a strong foundation in which to support its membership by providing education, resources, marketing, promotions,
networking, grants, scholarships, internships, training, and an annual Made in Southwest Florida Faire. SRMA provides valuable contacts for networking and promotes an environment for industry growth. SRMA can help your business with expert advice through seminars and forums on topics such as Best Practices and Lean Manufacturing. SRMA also offers assistance with training employees, educating future employees and influencing legislation and regulation.
SRMA also has plans to will host its first-ever charity golf event on October 30 at Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Community Cooperative.
