#CFU Campaign launches to unite our community in response to COVID-19

Across Central Florida, people want to be part of the solution that keeps communities safe and makes it possible to reopen the economy. That’s why professional athletes joined together with Central Florida United to share a message of hope and a call to volunteer. Players from the Orlando Magic, Orlando City, Orlando Pride, and pro athletes in the NFL and NBA who call Central Florida home, all came together to share a call to volunteer and a message that reverberates with strength, hope, and gratitude.

“In times like these we must come together,” said Chad Brown, a current Dallas Mavericks G-League player who graduated from University of Central Florida. “Being from the area, I’m looking to do anything I can to support my community. I want everyone in Central Florida to know they are not alone. I’m excited to help Central Florida United continue to serve families in the area. It’s bigger than me, and I just want to play my part.”

From athletes to healthcare agencies and faith based organizations, supporters have come together with Central Florida United, because it delivers results that count. In a crisis that has left many households in need of immediate help, this is a mobilization effort that makes a difference.

In just a month since its launch, Central Florida United volunteers and donors have collaborated to deliver over 23,000 meals, care calls, and care packages directly to families in need across Central Florida. This is just the beginning. #TeamCFU helps Central Floridians and sets an example for all of America. It’s incredible what can happen when a region truly unites as one to provide food, support, supplies, and hope to those hurting the most during this pandemic.

“We looked at the emerging data in early March and it was already obvious that the scale of this crisis would be unprecedented,” says Dr. Maroon, President, Chief Data Officer at Polis Institute. Polis Institute started Central Florida United to help ensure every vulnerable community would have champions of care and support to address rising needs for essentials from food to care calls to care packages and referrals. “It was clear that an innovative crisis response was going to be vital to make sure the most vulnerable communities receive access to help. This is both an economic and a health crisis at once. Central Florida United was built to empower local organizations and volunteers to collaborate and mobilize in support of people most in need. We wanted to develop a solution that was accessible, could deploy rapid services, and be built on the power of caring people to make sure everyone in need of support and care gets it.”
