American Sign Language Classes Available to Southwest Florida Residents
Nonprofit provides beginner ASL instruction at community locations across the region, with no-cost enrollment for deaf and hard of hearing participants
FORT MYERS, FL — The Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center (DHHC) is offering American Sign Language (ASL) classes at locations in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and Port Charlotte. Classes are open to the general public and designed for individuals with no prior signing experience.
Classes are $75 per each five-week course for the general public, free for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and discounted for immediate family members. ASL instruction is offered in five levels. Each level is a five-week course that meets once a week. All materials are included and participants receive a certificate of accomplishment upon completion. Those who register for all five levels at once receive a reduced rate. Register at www.dhhc.life.
More than 810,000 Floridians live with significant hearing loss. Learning American Sign Language (ASL)—even just a few everyday signs—can help people communicate more comfortably with Deaf and hard-of-hearing neighbors, coworkers, friends and family members. ASL classes provide a fun, welcoming way to develop practical skills, learn more about Deaf culture and explore another way to communicate for those living with hearing loss.

ASL Level 1 meets Mondays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., beginning September 28, 2026.
Cape Coral — Cape Coral Caring Center, 1420 SE 47th Street
ASL Level 1 meets Tuesday or Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday classes begin September 29, 2026, and Thursday classes begin October 1, 2026
Bonita Springs/Naples — Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, 11601 Bonita Beach Road
ASL Level 1 meets Tuesdays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., beginning September 15, 2026.
Port Charlotte — United Way Building, 17831 Murdock Circle A, Port Charlotte, FL 33948
ASL Level 1 meets Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., beginning September 14, 2026.
About the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center
Founded in 1983, the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and United Way partner agency serving Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades counties — the only Deaf service center in the region.
