Healthy Humans Hendry-Glades unveils child safety and health web page
Healthy Humans Hendry-Glades has launched new information on its website that is designed to increase communication and awareness in relation to child safety and health.
The webpage, HealthierHendryGlades.org/Child-Safety-Health/, on the Healthy Humans Hendry-Glades website, details unique health and safety challenges that can affect the long-term health of children. Some of the information offered on the webpage includes:
The WIC program
Food insecurity
Lack of insurance
Providing children with a balanced meal
Ensuring sufficient sleep
Balancing screen time with recreational time
Water safety
Child seat safety
An important dropdown on the page details Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs. ACEs are stressful, traumatic events that happen during the first 18 years of life. They can happen to youth from any background in any community. Research has shown that ACEs are common, and without proper support, they can have lasting effects on health and well-being. ACEs have been shown to increase the risk for heart disease, diabetes, depression and substance abuse later in life.
Child safety and health was recognized as one of four priorities in the most recent Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) for Hendry and Glades counties. The intent of the plan is to identify priority goals and strategies while fostering community partnerships in order to improve the overall health of the community.

on keeping them safe and healthy,” said Peggy Brown, Director of Planning, Health Planning Council of Southwest Florida. “The new web page provides important information, tools and local resources that will help families ensure that their children are taken care of.”
