What’s in Your Cup?

I recently read this allegory.

You’re walking down the street holding a cup of coffee, when someone bumps into you and your coffee spills.

Why did you spill your coffee? Because someone bumped in to you? Wrong.

You spilled your coffee because there was coffee in your cup. If you had tea in your cup you would have spilled tea. Whatever is in your cup is what will spill out.

When the bumps of life come along and shake you (and they will) what will spill out of you. Well, it depends on what you’re filled with. Is it joy, peace, love and gratitude, or anger, bitterness, and jealousy?

It’s often easy to keep it together when things are going well. It’s when unexpected trials come along that whatver we are filled with just comes out.

Let’s be intentional about what we fill ourselves with.
