Avow recertified as Level 5 Partner with We Honor Veterans
Avow has renewed its Level 5 Partner status with We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) that demonstrates a high level of commitment to veteran-centric care in the community. Avow is among just 3.8% of hospices participating in the program to achieve Level 5, the highest designation.

Reaching Level 5 takes a year to complete and must be renewed annually. As a partner, Avow provides specialized care to veterans who are facing a chronic or serious illness. This includes a veteran-to-veteran volunteer program, training on conflict-specific medical and mental health concerns, and knowledge to assist veterans in navigating VA benefits. Eight veterans work for Avow, with its director of staff education, Tina Gosling, the highest ranking. She spent 26 years in the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
We Honor Veterans programs includes:
A focused admissions process, including specific veteran admission information
A care team who identifies and meets the unique needs of veterans and their families, insurance coverage of care, and available veteran benefits
An individualized plan of care that is veteran and family-centered and includes the veteran’s military experiences
Service recognition with special ceremonies
Veteran-to-veteran volunteer programs
Effort to replace lost medals and awards
Emotional support and bereavement counseling
In addition, Avow presents a pin, certificate and military branch blanket to each veteran patient in its hospice program. Avow also recognizes veterans through ceremonies on Armed Forces Day, Veterans Day, and military anniversaries and birthdays.
NHPCO and the Department of Veterans Affairs launched We Honor Veterans in 2010 to address the growing need for veteran-centered care, especially as veterans from different eras are aging and need access to veteran-centric palliative and hospice care.
