Community Cooperative Announces Annual Full Plates Project

Community Cooperative is calling upon Southwest Florida individuals, businesses and community groups to help collect the more than 2,000 turkeys needed to fulfill the need for this year’s Full Plates Project. The Annual Full Plates Project provides prepared Thanksgiving meals for those who cannot cook and Thanksgiving Dinner kits for those who have the ability to cook but are unable to afford the holiday meal cost to their budgets. Community Cooperative relies on monetary donations and in-kind turkey and non-perishable food donations to ensure that NO PLATE IS EMPTY THIS THANKSGIVING.

“We started this initiative a couple of years ago to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to have a homemade Thanksgiving meal and a reason to give thanks in knowing that there are people who care about them”, said Tracey Galloway, CEO of Community Cooperative. “It is a big undertaking to secure 2,000 turkeys, prepare hot meals for upwards of 1,000 people, and package and distribute Thanksgiving Dinner Kits for another 1,500 families. We are relying on our most generous community to come together through donations and volunteerism to make this year’s Full Plates Project a success”.

Community Cooperative’s Full Plate Project was created in knowing there more than 120,000 people at risk of being hungry every day in Lee County and its important to make sure that no one is alone and hungry during the holidays. Businesses and individuals interested in being a part of the Full Plates Project can donate turkeys and family sized, traditional, Thanksgiving sides or the funds to help support the purchase of such items. Food donations can be dropped off to the main office located at 3429 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. no later than Friday, November 17th. Checks can be made out to Community Cooperative and mailed to P.O. Box 2143, Fort Myers, FL 33902. or email Thanksgiving@CommunityCooperative.com.
