Family Initiative promotes Leigh Ann Drew to child welfare director

Family Initiative has promoted Leigh Ann Drew to child welfare director. In this role, Drew oversees all the child welfare programs and services statewide for the Florida-based nonprofit.

Family Initiative focuses on providing compassionate training, education and support to families in two areas: those with children living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and those who care for children in the Florida child welfare system.

“Leigh Ann has a passion to be in service and a desire to impact children and families,” said David Brown, MSW, co-founder and president of Family Initiative. “She is a natural leader, and we are all excited for her to take on this new role as our organization continues to grow statewide.”

The organization officially gained Drew’s expertise in 2019 when she assumed the position of program manager for Family Initiative’s Family Impact Program in Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto Counties. Drew has contributed to the nonprofit’s development as a volunteer at Family Initiative’s weekly Autism Playgroup since its inception in 2016.

Drew graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a master’s degree in social work in 2013 and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2017. She has since become a certified Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TRBI) practitioner.

With over 10 years of experience in child welfare, hospice and community mental health settings, Drew embraces her passion for service through the families supported by Family Initiative.
