Friends of Foster Children Forever’s “Sunshine 5K” benefited local foster children

Friends of Foster Children Forever (FFCF) held their 2nd annual ‘Sunshine 5K Run/Walk’ on April 21 at the Collier County Public Schools Administration Center in Naples.

The 5K race included runners along with walkers, and was coordinated courtesy of the Gulf Coast Runners. Participants ranged in age from 7 to an 83 years old. The overall race winner was Scott Hahnert, age 30, who completed the race in 17:59 minutes.

The event, which had over 170 participants, was held to raise public awareness of the needs of local foster children and help support the FFCF academic mentoring program.

FFCF volunteers and sponsors helped participants to enjoy a morning of fun and entertainment. Making the event possible were sponsors: DeVoe Automotive Group, Easterly Building Company, Jim and Faye Derham, Naples Donuts, LLC., PhotoMagicEvents, Publix, Sign Gypsies, Sunset Grill LLC., and Wynn’s Catering.

The FFCF mission is to focus on the children they serve by providing targeted educational and enrichment opportunities that allow each child to fulfill his or her potential. The charitable organization works to fulfill the unmet needs of every child who enters, or is at risk of entering the foster care system in Collier, Hendry and Glades Counties.
