Local Orangetheory Fitness clients win at losing in national competition

Orangetheory Fitness Fort Myers is pleased to announce that two Southwest Floridians were top finishers in the company’s national weight loss challenge. Dave Beers and Lea Burkey finished in the top three in the competition, which involved more than 5,000 people from across the country. Both Beers and Burkey work out at the Orangetheory Fitness studio on Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers.

Competitors in the six-week long competition used Orangetheory’s science-based program to help them lose the weight and get in shape. Beers, a Fort Myers Beach firefighter, was the nation’s top finisher for the men, losing 23 percent of his body weight, or 60 pounds. He took home a grand prize of $10,000 for his hard work. Burkey placed third in the competition for the women, losing 22 percent of her body weight, 38 pounds, and took home $4,000 for her amazing accomplishment.

Mike Huber, the Head Trainer at Orangetheory in Fort Myers, along with his team of trainers, Garrett Rasmussen, Craig Norling, and Justin Klein, worked with the winners throughout the six weeks to ensure they reached their goals. Huber said both competitors were committed to the effort it took to see the results they wanted. He said, “Along with proper nutrition, the cardiovascular conditioning, strength, core and flexibility training we provide to our clients certainly were instrumental in helping Dave and Lea see the positive results they wanted. It was great to see all their hard work pay off in such a positive way.”
