STARability announces board officer and directors

The STARability Foundation welcomes a new officer and three new directors to its Board of Directors. Board terms are for two years and will begin July 1.

Laura Georgelos will serve as vice president. She joins Lisa Kahn-Allen, board president and owner of Lisa Kahn Designs; Ken Gilman, treasurer and retired CEO; and Kelly Moynihan, Ph.D., secretary and a retired ExxonMobil consultant, as an officer of the board. An experienced real estate broker, Georgelos joined STARability’s Board of Directors in 2020 and has been a longtime volunteer with the organization, having co-chaired its signature event, the STAR Gala, twice.

The new directors are Anne Fleming, general manager of Waterside Shops; Jeff Maconaghy, president of AssuredPartners Transportation; and Joe Smallwood, CEO of BCB Homes, Inc. They join Carrie Cooney, community volunteer; Eric Cosentino of FineMark National Bank & Trust; Domenic Lucarelli of Lucarelli Law; and Jerry Schoenfeld, Ph.D., of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Lutgert College of Business, in their new roles.

The board and CEO Karen Govern work together to lead the Collier County-based nonprofit on fulfilling its mission of serving individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities as well as achieving strategic goals and governance responsibilities.

“Our board has never been more vibrant and ready to embrace forward movement than we are this year,” Kahn said. “Our new board members will bring wisdom, leadership and fresh ideas to help us continue shining light on the abilities of our participants.”

STARability Foundation exists to Support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing life-transforming opportunities that emphasize Teamwork and connection to the community to build Awareness and Respect for their individual abilities.
