Sunshine Ace Hardware helps build eighth Habitat for Humanity home in Collier County

Sunshine Ace Hardware is celebrating the eighth local family to experience home ownership through the company’s thriving partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Collier County.

Sunshine Ace participates in Florida’s Community Contribution Tax Credit Program, which provides tax credits and sales tax refunds to participating companies. The incentives encourage businesses to make donations toward community development and housing initiatives for low-income residents. Sunshine Ace has participated in the program for the past five years.

In 2021, Sunshine Ace committed to fund the cost of materials to build a new home in Vincent’s Acres, a new Habitat community in Naples that features 79 two-story, single-family homes.

“Affordable housing has been a challenge in Collier County for many years, but this state-supported program allows businesses to essentially redirect some of their sales tax revenue to support local initiatives,” said Sunshine Ace President Michael Wynn. “From a business standpoint, there is no reason not to participate. We have proudly supported community causes since the company was founded in 1958 and are glad to support Habitat for Humanity as it builds homes and hope for Collier County families.”

In addition to the financial donation, Sunshine Ace employees also volunteer side-by-side with families who are investing sweat equity before purchasing their homes with an affordable mortgage. Since 1978, Habitat for Humanity of Collier County has built more than 2,300 homes in Naples and Immokalee. Its goal is to empower families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

“Partnerships like this one are critical to our ability to serve families who need access to affordable homeownership opportunities,” says Rev. Lisa Lefkow, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Collier County. “We are incredibly grateful to Sunshine Ace Hardware and all of the local employers who are impacted by the local housing crisis and choose to become part of the solution.”
