The Community House set to celebrate 97th anniversary with support from The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company
As Sanibel Island continues to recover and rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Ian, islanders and others alike are getting ready to celebrate one of the longest-standing structures on the island – the Community House.
With the support of sponsors, such as The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, the Community House will celebrate its 97th anniversary on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 6-9 p.m. at 2173 Periwinkle Way.
The home of the Sanibel Community Association, the Community House is considered to be “The Heart of the Island.” Built in 1927 at the urging of part-time Captiva resident Curtis Perry, the building was constructed on land donated by one of Sanibel’s original residents, Cordie Nutt. The Community House was the birthplace for many civic groups and the incorporation of Sanibel as a city.
The anniversary celebration will consist of a four-course meal prepared by island chefs plus music and a live auction. The attire is casual dress and guests are asked to wear black and white in honor of the 97th anniversary.
Sponsorships to help support the event are still available by contacting Teresa Riska-Hall at 239-472-2155 or emailing teresa@sanibelcommunityhouse.net.
Registration for the event is required and is $175 per person. Online registration is available at sanibelcommunityhouse.net/event/97th-anniversary-gala/.
