The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company hosts distinguished Rutgers history professor Louis P. Masur

The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company rounded out its 2024 Speaker Series on March 13 at the Tribby Arts Center in Shell Point with an engaging discussion led by Louis P. Masur, Board of Governors, Distinguished Professor of American Studies and History at Rutgers University.

Masur took a deep dive into how the early life of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, prepared him to lead the U.S. through the tumultuous four years of the Civil War. An enthusiastic crowd heard Masur apply lessons of Lincoln’s leadership to the management of current conflicts and how individuals can become more effective leaders in the workplace and community.

Masur is a cultural historian and author taking an interdisciplinary approach to the study of American culture. His essays and reviews have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN and Slate.
