Veteran federal prosecutor Marc S. Gromis joins Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice, Purtz, Smith & Smith, P.A.
Attorney Marc S. Gromis has joined Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice, Purtz, Smith & Smith, P.A., a 63-year-old Southwest Florida personal injury law firm, where he focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, motor vehicle and motorcycle accidents, and slip-and-fall cases.
Gromis brings more than 40 years of legal experience spanning both civil and criminal litigation, including more than 15 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney representing the federal government.
“Marc is an exceptional addition to the Goldstein, Buckley law firm,” said Christopher J. Smith, co-managing partner. “He brings tremendous expertise, sound judgment and unwavering dedication to client service. His track record of success and integrity strengthens our team and positions us for continued excellence and growth.”
Originally from Bayside, New York, Gromis graduated cum laude from Brandeis University. He earned his Juris Doctor, also cum laude, from St. John’s University School of Law, where he graduated No. 1 in his class of 254 and served as chief justice of the moot court program.
He began his legal career clerking for U.S. District Judge John T. Elfvin in Buffalo, New York, before practicing civil litigation with a Washington, D.C. firm. He later returned to Buffalo and joined the United States Attorney’s Office, where he led high-impact investigations and prosecutions as Chief of the Arson Task Force and Chief of the Telemarketing Task Force.
In that role, Gromis helped prosecute and convict more than 200 individuals and companies involved in schemes that defrauded elderly victims of tens of thousands of dollars. He also trained federal and state attorneys, as well as law enforcement agencies nationwide, on strategies to investigate and shut down complex fraud operations.
Gromis later served as Chief of the White Collar and General Crimes Division, further expanding his leadership in complex litigation. His distinguished federal service earned him the Director’s Award from U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno for superior performance, along with recognition from agencies including the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Customs, Internal Revenue Service, Food and Drug Administration and Department of Environmental Protection.
After decades practicing law in New York, Gromis transitioned to personal injury law in private practice before relocating to Southwest Florida in 2022 with his wife, two children and their rescue pups. He is admitted to practice in Florida and New York, as well as the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Established in 1962, Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice, Purtz, Smith & Smith, P.A. is a Fort Myers-based personal injury law firm with attorneys who bring more than 200 years of combined legal experience.
