Veterans and First Responders Legal Clinic provides free advice on October 29
In partnership with the Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation and Florida Rural Legal Services, the Lee County Bar Association (LCBA) is pleased to present the second annual Veterans and First Responders Legal Clinic from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Southwest Florida Military Museum and Library, 4820 Leonard Street in Cape Coral.
The Pro Bono Committee of the LCBA invites veterans, active military personnel, police officers and firefighters to receive free legal advice on matters including real estate/property, family law, estates and trusts, veterans’ benefits and social security benefits. The event is free of charge for attendees with valid identification, and no registration is required.
In addition to legal advice, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the services provided by Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation, which will be on hand at the event.
The Veterans and First Responders Clinic is spearheaded by LCBA President-Elect Kelly Fayer. A volunteer appreciation lunch will be sponsored by Brad Jessen, a financial advisor at Edward Jones and retired U.S. Navy aviator, 1992 – 2013.
The inaugural Veterans and First Responders Legal Clinic was held in 2015, when the Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation graciously offered the use of the Southwest Florida Military Museum and Library for the event. According to the foundation’s founder and president, Ralph Santillo, “There is never enough help in the legal field available to veterans who are living on limited incomes.”
The LCBA’s Pro Bono Committee develops and expands pro bono activities to provide access to the justice system for clients who are unable to pay for attorneys’ services. Through events such as the Veterans and First Responsers Legal Clinic, private attorneys are able to provide brief services, without charge, to help individuals navigate the justice system.
