Friends of Foster Children Forever’s “Sunshine 5K” benefited local foster children

Friends of Foster Children Forever held their third annual ‘Sunshine 5K Run/Walk on April 27 at the Collier County Public Schools Administration Center in Naples.

The 5K race included runners along with walkers, and was coordinated courtesy of the Gulf Coast Runners. Participants ranged in age from 6 to 84 years old.

The overall male race winner was Glen Button who completed the race in 17:39.6 minutes and, the overall female race winner was Sheldyn Fisher who completed the race in 21:09.6 minutes.

The event was held to raise public awareness of the needs of local foster children and help support the Friends of Foster Children Forever academic mentoring program.

Friends of Foster Children Forever’s volunteers and sponsors helped participants to enjoy a morning of fun and entertainment. Making the event possible were sponsors: Brilliant HR, Camelot Community Care, Easterly Building Company, Galt Insurance Group, Sign Gypsies, Sunset Grille, T. Jerulle Construction, Jim and Faye Derham, and Sonya and Brian Sawyer.

The Friends of Foster Children Forever mission is to focus on the children they serve by providing targeted educational and enrichment opportunities that allow each child to fulfill his or her potential. The charitable organization works to fulfill the unmet needs of every child who enters or, is at risk of entering the foster care system.
