Avow wins two awards from the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care Association

Avow won two of eight Awards of Excellence, including the Hospice Story Award and the Synergy Award, during the Florida Hospice & Palliative Care Association (FHPCA) Forum in Orlando in June.

“Avow takes extraordinary pride in providing compassionate care that allows our patients to live out their lives with love, and our employees take that charge to heart,” said Jaysen Roa, president & CEO of Avow companies. “These awards acknowledge just a few examples of how our team seeks to honor each individual every day.”

The Hospice Story Award recognizes a person or organization that best captures a meaningful hospice experience with an original creative work. Jillian Iurlano, a board-certified music therapist at Avow, worked with patient Jodi Allen to turn a prayer she had written into a song and music video as a gift to her family before her passing.

The Synergy Award recognized the Avow Frances Georgeson Hospice House Team for collaboration between the interdisciplinary teams and administration. The nomination recalled a special wedding held for a hospice patient and efforts to help young parents celebrate moments with their month-old baby before she passed. The team recognized included: Dawn Kolderman, clinical director; Diana Lamb, Care24 Manager; Kelly Zercie, Carla Simpson and Amber McLallan, Hospice House RNs; Veronica Madrigal, Avow CNA; Karen Lopez, admissions care coordinator; Iurlano; Joel Collazo, graphic artist, and Sarah Nolte, Avow Treasures Resale Shop.

“These selfless acts of service are what our staff continually does because it’s the right thing to do,” wrote Avow Director of Communications Renee Stoll in her award nomination. “They may not realize that the whole company is watching their combined efforts and continues to be inspired by how they give of themselves in ways that a job description doesn’t detail.”

FHPCA’s annual end-of-life forum Hospice Works is for non-clinical professionals working in leadership, quality and compliance, marketing and communication, information technology, human resources, finances and development.
