Bonita Springs Celebrates First World Ukulele Day on February 2, 2025
Ukulele Event Features America’s Got Talent Finalist Mandy Harvey
Bonita Springs, Fla. (November 19, 2024) – On Sunday, February 2nd, from Noon till 6:30 p.m., Bonita Springs will join dozens of other towns and cities worldwide to honor the world’s most famous little instrument- the Ukulele- on what is officially World Ukulele Day.
The free all-day celebration will feature various live performances throughout downtown establishments, including The Bonita Springs Historical Society, which will host free ukulele lessons from noon to 3:00 p.m. Following the free lessons, there will be a ukulele jam at 4 p.m. at the Riverside Park Bandshell, where all players can download free music at the Hugs Ukulele Group Naples Facebook page in January.
The day will finish with a concert at Riverside Park from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. featuring the internationally renowned artist Mandy Harvey, The Pickin’ Pear duo, Tom Hood and his Tropical Son and Daughter, and Ray Cyrgrymus.
Harvey, stricken deaf in college, rose above this disability to become an America’s Got Talent finalist, golden buzzer recipient, recording star, songwriter, and inspirational speaker. “I am thrilled to kick off my 2025 U.S. tour with an appearance at World Ukulele Day in beautiful Bonita Springs,” says Mandy Harvey. “My young family and I are looking forward to our stay at the historic Shangri-La Spa and share my message at the Springs of Bonita Church on the morning of February 2.”
The event will bring ukulele enthusiasts of all ages together to celebrate the joy of music and explore the social and emotional benefits that the ukulele provides. All donations collected at the Concert will benefit The Right Chord for Veterans. Right Chord disperses funds to designated Veteran organizations and is sponsored by Three Chord Bourbon.
“The ability to combine educational, entertainment, and inspirational elements into one event that also benefits Bonita’s Downtown re-development mission is unique,” said Derrick Botana, president of the Bonita Springs Historical Society. “We are thrilled to have been an early supporter and active participant in the first World Ukelele Day and excited to host the free beginners’ lessons under our tiki hut at the McSwain House. I’ll sit in on one.”
Attendees should bring lawn chairs and coolers. No pets are allowed in the park. For more information, please visit https://www.worldukuleleday.com/ or contact Rob Wilde at (813)380-9009 or rtwilde@icloud.com.
