Fort Myers, FL March 19, 2026
Florida Gulf Coast University’s Lutgert College of Business Ethics Case Competition Team recently competed in Stetson University’s Templeton Business Ethics Competition. The team consisted of presenters Emalee Postma and Ashley Fearday, with Dario Benes and Emma Takacs serving as researchers. The team was mentored by faculty advisor Taylor Daum from the Department of Management, with additional support from Dr. Mathew Sheep, Dr. Steven Fraser, Professor Tom Mathews, Dr. Mark Case, Dr. Jenny Manegold, Professor Kira Lewis, Dr. Eric B. Dent, and Dr. Sunny Song.
The FGCU team earned First Runner-Up in the Manatee Division, finishing just behind UMass Amherst. The University of Florida won the overall competition. Presenters Emalee Postma and Ashley Fearday were awarded $500 and received individual recognition plaques for their performance.
The team analyzed the case “Flying Green: Should Delta Airlines Go All-In on SAF?”, which examined the ethical, financial, and strategic trade-offs surrounding Delta Air Lines’ investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The case challenged students to evaluate how companies balance environmental responsibility with cost, scalability, and stakeholder expectations.
“Competing pushed me outside my comfort zone and strengthened my teamwork and communication skills. It challenged us to clearly present complex ideas under pressure and collaborate effectively.” – Emalee Postma
“Analyzing Delta’s SAF strategy required us to weigh legal, financial, and ethical trade-offs while delivering a clear, compelling recommendation in real time.” – Ashley Fearday
