Keep Lee County Beautiful Awarded Volunteer Florida Grant

[Fort Myers, FL] (November 10, 2020) Keep Lee County Beautiful, Inc. (KLCB) is honored to be one of the 24 nonprofits and service organizations in the State of Florida to be awarded the Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) grant funding. Volunteer Florida’s VGF program, which is funded by the federal agency, AmeriCorps, helps organizations recruit skills-based volunteers to serve Florida communities.

The grant funding will be used to recruit volunteers for the Keep Lee County Beautiful “Classroom in a Box” program. This program offers teachers complete, week-long educational “boxes” for their classrooms. The box contains all of the materials, curriculum (and some even offer field trips) to complete their lessons. Lessons include: Microplastics Testing, Reducing the Carbon Footprint, The Importance of Trees, and more. These educational modules will be offered at no cost to educators and are available on a first come, first serve basis. The hands-on engagement opportunities will reach thousands of Lee County students and help educate them on the importance of protecting our environment.

The “Classroom in a Box” program is an exciting expansion to KLCB’s mission to educate and engage the community and raising awareness of local environmental issues.
