Latchkey League presents $50,000 in grants to two Collier County youth organizations

The Latchkey League, whose mission is to provide educational, cultural and recreational services to children who need after-school supervision, has granted $50,000 to two Collier County youth organizations. Checks were presented to the non-profit organizations on November 17, 2017, at the Latchkey League membership luncheon.
A grant of $25,000 was presented to New Horizons, and was received by their Executive Director, Debra Haley. New Horizon’s mission is to empower at-risk youth to reach their full potential through tutoring, mentoring and faith-building. The grant will be used to help further their mission and help 460 students receive tutoring and assistance with school work, as well as help the organization promote good citizenship.
A $25,000 grant for educational materials was presented to The Salvation Army, and accepted by Paul Conklin, Director of The Fran Cohen Youth Center. The Salvation Army currently serves 120 children who are considered at-risk. The Center provides programs for children of all ability levels the opportunity to play and grow in a positive and safe environment. The programs strive to develop the whole child – within their environment – to help them grow physically, mentally and socially. Funding for the center’s construction was raised by the Latchkey League, and the building was officially dedicated in April of this year.
“We’re doing great things for our local children who are at-risk with the assistance and dedication of our volunteers and donors,” said Myra Janco Daniels, founder of the Latchkey League. “The word is getting out and we were fortunate to recently receive 400 pairs of new shoes through the efforts of The Shoe Warehouse. The Salvation Army channeled these shoes to needy children and adults in Immokalee with the help of The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County. It’s a pleasure to be part of this effort to help our local youth.”

The Latchkey League was formed in 2013 with the commitment to raise funds for at-risk children participating in after-school programs in Collier County, Florida. The mission of the Latchkey League, Inc. is to support and provide educational, cultural and recreational services to children in the greater Naples area who are in need of after-school supervision and activities, and to promote educational development for their future.
