Schulze Family Foundation grant to provide summer scholarships to Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County received a $40,000 grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation to provide additional access and enhance summer programs for members.

The grant will provide scholarships to children and teens attending the Summer Enrichment Program in addition to supporting the Boys & Girls Club’s “Summer Smarts” curriculum, which is designed to reduce summer learning loss through project-based reading and STEM activities.

It’s estimated that three in four youth lack access to high-quality summer programs, leaving them at risk for significant summer learning loss. Additionally, one in five young people have no place to go after school, leaving them potentially unguided, unproductive and unsafe. Experts pinpoint high-quality after-school and summer programs as critical to the future of youth.

“The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation is proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County,” said Mary Beth Geier, Florida director for the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation. “We recognize the important work they do to serve the youth of our community by providing valuable after-school and summer opportunities for children. We look forward to watching them grow and, equally important, watching them change the lives of youth of the community through engaging programs and activities.”

Through support from charitable organizations, local businesses and area residents, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County can fulfill its mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

“We are so appreciative of the Schulze Family Foundation’s generous support to help us provide a safe, positive, inclusive place for kids this summer to build relationships, broaden their minds and make lifelong memories,” said Julie Todaro, vice president of resource development.
