Avow’s Southwest Florida Antiques Appraisal Fair raises $26,705

Avow’s Southwest Florida Antiques Appraisal fair kicked off with a sold-out preview event followed by a public appraisal day with representatives of Doyle New York, regular appraisers on “Antiques Roadshow.” The event raised $26,705 for Avow’s hospice, palliative care and grief support services.

One participant found out she had a ring valued at $100,000. Board member Pat Martin brought artwork that was valued at $800 to $1,200 that Doyle purchased, with the proceeds being donated back to Avow. A piece of tile work that traced back centuries was valued around $9,000. Doyle purchased one piece of artwork from Avow Treasures Resale Shop, and several attendees donated their items following appraisal.

Highlights of the preview event included a live auction that featured a one-hour test drive in a Ferrari with race gear, compliments of Ferrari of Naples, and a helicopter getaway for six to Useppa Island, provided by Elite Jets.

“What makes this event special is everyone has something that is a treasure, and it’s fun to find out where it came from and what it’s worth,” said Annalise Smith, senior vice president of philanthropy at Avow. “The best part is the event benefits the important work that Avow does for our community.”

The Preview Event March 9 included wine, hors d’oeuvres, stories from “Antiques Roadshow” and silent and live auctions, as well as appraisals for guests.

The Public Appraisals Day March 10 included two appraisals for each participant, including fine jewelry and watches, prints, fine art, furniture, decorative arts, rare books and coins, maps and more.
