Jim Henderson, local business owner, was guest speaker at Solar Co-op press conference

Jim Henderson, owner of William C. Huff Companies and JLH Sustainable, was a guest speaker at an informative Solar Co-op press conference held January 23 at the Community Foundation of Collier County.
The conference was hosted by the League of Women Voters of Lee and Collier Counties, and Solar Neighbors United, and was held to announce the opening of a new Southwest Florida Solar Co-op.
Henderson addressed attendees and spoke about how he made the decision to go solar from a business perspective. Henderson owns the largest solar system in Collier County which powers the William C. Huff warehouses, and he also completed construction of his first sustainable and attainable solar home last year.
Several experts and advocates for solar power spoke including Penny Taylor, Collier County Commissioner for District 4. She talked about Collier County’s responsiveness to solar energy and current projects. One of the other speakers was Michael Savarese, PH.D., professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, a climate and resiliency expert. He discussed solar energy and the importance of reducing the use of fossil fuels.
The co-op will assist a group of small businesses and homeowners who are interested in purchasing solar panels to leverage their bulk purchasing power while learning about the benefits of distributed solar energy. As part of a solar co-op, members benefit from the educational process. Joining is not an obligation to purchase panels, however members who do, will sign their own individualized contract with the selected installer. All small businesses and homeowners who reside in Lee and Collier Counties are eligible to participate.
