STARability Foundation Holds VIP Reception for STAR Store

The STARability Foundation’s newest endeavor, the STAR Store: Upscale Resale & Stellar Art, welcomed VIP guests to a pre-opening reception on July 31 with board members, donors, supporters and several members in attendance.

The STAR Store is an upscale resale shop located in the up-and-coming Naples Design District at 106 10th Street North. The store is now open for business and is accepting donations of gently-used designer furniture and household items.

STARability helps support people with disabilities by providing life transforming opportunities that emphasize teamwork, connection to the community to build awareness, and respect for individual abilities. Proceeds from the STAR Store will support the STARability’s mission to shine light on ability, not disability.

“We are thrilled to have our first brick and mortar storefront in the community to enhance community awareness of our mission,” said Karen Govern, STARability Foundation’s Executive Director. “The store will provide STARability members with job training, a place to create and sell their art, as well as volunteering and job opportunities.”

The store came about through a vision of Carrie Jo Terry, the store’s director. She brings experience in non-profit resale store management and volunteer coordination. She also has a heart for the organization as she has a son with autism and is godmother to Brett Cooney, a STARability participant.
